Velocity

This story was largely inspired by my mother, Margaret Chitondo, who is a persistent and compassionate woman in my life. The narrative follows 3 characters: Tatenda, our protagonist, as well as her younger brother, Takudzwa, and her older brother, Takunda. The reader sees her struggle with identity, as her dreams of pursuing athletics are put to the test by her responsibilities needing to take care of her younger sibling and manage tensions and conflicts with her older brother, who buckles under societal expectations of how he should act. Below is process work of the comic, as well as samples of finished comic art and sketches created during the conception of the project. The story revolves around the central question: How far can one stray from tradition and still be accepted within a Zimbabwean context?
